Carl T. Hayashi, Ph.D.

Carl Hayashi, Ph.D. is the owner and Chief Executive Officer of the Hayashi Consulting Group (HCG), purposed to empower customer success through partnership, trust, and a shared passion for excellence. As a trusted partner with its customers, HCG’s mission is to provide best-of-breed staff augmentation and support in the areas of Information Technology (IT) and Digital Transformation; Operations and Program/Project Management; Research, Evaluation, and Analysis; and Training and Technical Assistance. Likewise, HCG was created based on a vision fostering interdependence, humility, compassion, and respect, with the core values of innovation, trust, teamwork, dignity, and excellence.

Experience

Before founding HCG, Carl served as Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer for Van Metre Companies, a regional real estate company in Virginia, where he led an IT organization, achieving an annual 95% customer satisfaction rating, as well as the successful implementation of numerous strategic initiatives, including cloud migration, installation of a software-defined wide area network, and the establishment of a data warehouse environment. He also led a company-wide, organizational-transformation initiative, emphasizing a data-driven, business-decision-making model (e.g., data analytics, business intelligence) and enhanced, go-to-market strategies (e.g.,  corporate rebranding, new website design).

Carl has also held numerous management positions within the disaster recovery, business continuity, and resiliency services organizations of the IBM Corporation, which included cloud customer backup and recovery, emergency operations, delivery technical support and operations, and national project management. Prior to his tenure at IBM, he held faculty positions at Texas Tech University and the University of Oregon, where he taught graduate and undergraduate courses, conducted scientific research, advised graduate students, and authored numerous research studies published in peer-reviewed scientific journals and book chapters.

Throughout his career, Carl has been recognized for identifying and implementing cost-saving strategies to enhance business operations and to maximize revenue. In addition, he has actively participated in strategic business development, as well as in winning proposal and grant writing.

Carl received his B.S. in Psychology from Lewis and Clark College, his M.S. and Ph.D. in Exercise and Sports Science from the University of Oregon, and a Master’s Certificate in Project Management from The George Washington University. He has also served as an advisory board member for George Mason University, Volgenau School of Engineering Data Analytics program.
